Valsad (Gujarat) [India]: The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has issued a closure notice to Vapi-based Vital Healthcare Private Limited for selling mixed solvent—residue from pharmaceutical manufacturing—directly to traders in the open market without prior authorisation from the relevant authorities.

The GPCB’s Vapi division has ordered Vital Healthcare Private Limited’s owners to deposit Rs 50 lakh as a fine and Rs 7 lakh in bank guarantees as part of the Environment Damage Compensation (EDC).

Vital Healthcare Private Limited, based in the third phase of the Vapi Industrial Area (VIA), manufactures Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). The corporation failed to get clearance for the proper disposal of the mixed solvent waste created by the factory during the manufacture of the APIs.

A tanker filled with mixed solvent from Vital Healthcare Private Limited was intercepted in Vapi a few months ago.

Furthermore, the GPCB has served a 15-day closure notice to Vital Healthcare Private Limited in Vapi.
