An elderly drug peddler caught with 15kg of opium brought from Rajasthan on the motorcycle

Surat (Gujarat) [India]: An elderly drug peddler drove over 500 kilometers from Rajasthan on his motorycle with 15 kg of opium before being apprehended by Surat police late Sunday night.

Surat police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) received information about a drug peddler in his 70s, a resident of Sitanagar in Surat’s Sarthana, smuggling opium from Rajasthan. The SOG sleuths were tipped off that the man was carrying a large amount of opium.

During the operation, SGO sleuths apprehended an elderly peddler from Laskana. The man was riding his motorcycle when he revealed that he used to peddle opium from Rajasthan to Surat regularly.

According to the police, the opium is worth Rs 1,45,800 and was obtained directly from contraband vendors in Rajasthan. The man was smuggling opium on his motorcycle to avoid detection by Surat’s security agencies.

The Sarthana police have filed a complaint and are conducting an investigation.
