Surat/Valsad (Gujarat) [India]: Heavy to very heavy torrential rains pounded the Valsad district in South Gujarat rendering thousands of people homeless and throwing normal life out of gear. AS the Gujarat Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in some of the districts in Gujarat and issued red and orange alerts between July 11 and July 15, the people in Valsad are the first to be impacted by heavy rains and floods in the Auranga river.
More than 5,000 people from the low-lying areas in Valsad’s Bhagdakud, Bhadeli, and Hingraj were stuck in the flood waters inside their houses. The Valsad administration has taken the help of the Daman Coast Guard helicopters to rescue the victims from the flood-affected villages.
Over dozens of victims stuck in the flood waters were rescued by the Daman Coast Guard from the affected villages on Monday.
The Valsad administration is unable to establish contact with the Bhagdakhud village in Valsad as the flood waters gushed into the village due to the rising water levels in the Ambika river.
Sources said the Daman Ganga river in Vapi is flowing at a dangerous mark due to heavy rains in its catchment areas including Dangs.
Meanwhile, Gujarat BJP President CR Paatil has ordered the BJP members in every district, city, and village to help in the rescue operation and distribute food packets. Paatil tweeted, “Gujarat is pounded with heavy to very heavy rains, and many districts in the State are facing a flood-like situation. I urge every BJP member and leader to remain in the field and help the victims in their respective areas. The BJP Gujarat Unit will provide all possible help and assistance in the rescue and relief operations”
