Surat/Hazira (Gujarat) [India] : ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS India), a joint venture of ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, deployed dewatering pumps in low-lying areas of Gundardi village in Hazira to clear water-logging following heavy to heavy rains on Wednesday.
The village, located in the vicinity of AM/NS India’s integrated steel manufacturing facility in Hazira, experiences severe water-logging every year during heavy rainfall. It was the case again on Wednesday when continuous rainfall resulted in water logging at many places in the village. The water also entered several homes in the village causing extensive damage.
AM/NS India deployed five dewatering pumps to drain out the rainwater from the village and clear the water-logging. The company provided has offered temporary shelter to the villagers affected by the situation, and also undertook food distribution in the village.
“The local communities have always supported us. We see it as our duty to extend any assistance to them during times when they need help. The continuous rainfall led to severe water-logging in the village and we are happy to have been able to help them,” said Dr. Anil Matoo, Head, HR Operations, IR, and AdministrationHead of Human Resources, Industrial Relations and Administration at AM/NS India.
