Introduction of Bhagavad Gita in Gujarat schools will make children better human beings : Swami Govind Dev Giri

Surat (Gujarat) [India], March 19: Swami Govind Dev Giri, treasurer of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, expressed his gratitude to the government for making Gujarat the first state in India to include the Bhagavad Gita in the school curriculum for classes 6 to 12 from the academic year 2022-23.

Swami Govind Dev Giri, who is on a two-day visit to Surat and the tribal-dominated Dang,  flagged off the ‘Gita Gyan Rath’ dedicated to the community by the Shri Ram Krishna (SRK) knowledge foundation from the SRK sports park ground in Katargam on Saturday. Giri will be visiting Dangs of about 14 Hanuman temples constructed in 14 villages of Dangs with the efforts of the SRK knowledge foundation on Sunday.

Addressing media persons at SRK Sports ground in Katargam, Swami Govind Dev Giri said, “There are two types of education: one is for skill to earn money by getting degrees in engineering, doctorate and other fields and the second is for becoming a good human being. I express my gratitude to the Gujarat Government for implementing Bhagavad Gita as part of the school curriculum to make the students better human beings”

Giri added, “Bhagavad Gita is acknowledged by scholars from worldwide to be one of the most popular books from India. The book is devoid of communalism and it teaches how to become a good human being. The learning from Gita will make the students calm in every aspect and they will contribute immensely in the nation-building exercise”

Govind Dholakia, the chairman, of SRK, said, “The Gita Press in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh is going to complete 100 years in 2023. Till now, the Press has printed and published about 70 crore books for the Hindu community in India and around the world. Last year during my visit to the press, I discussed the idea of distributing the books printed by Gita Press in Surat and the south Gujarat region. This is how the Gita Gyan Rath was conceptualized”

Dholakia added, “The Gita Gyan Rath will move around in all the cities and towns. There will be no salesman to sell the books. The devotees are free to get on board of the chariot, developed at the cost of Rs 40 lakh, and drop whatever money they want in the dropbox to purchase the books”

According to Dholakia, the SRK knowledge foundation and like-minded donors and institutions are constructing 311 Hanuman temples across Dang district. Till now, we have constructed 49 temples in Dang to facilitate the tribal devotees. In the next two to three years, we will be constructing all the 311 temples in Dang. About 14 newly constructed temples will be dedicated to the devotees at the hands of Swami Govind Dev Giri on Sunday”
