Gandhidham (Gujarat) [India], February 24: Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) is all set to organise a three-day long seminar for aspiring umpires from across Gujarat starting from March 11.
The seminar will be conducted at the Haresh Sangtani Sports Complex in Gandhidham by international referee Dr Atul Dubey, who will share his invaluable experience. He will be supported by Harikumar Pillai, GSTTA Technical Committee chairman.
“GSTTA understands the need of the changing times. As we are ready to resume the sporting activities, we understand that we need to have more umpires in our existing panel. We are also looking to upgrade our existing umpires so that they get more opportunities at higher levels. Looking ahead to the future, the Technical Committee of GSTTA suggested a three-day seminar for the aspiring umpires,” GSTTA President Shri Vipul Mittra, IAS said.
“We will conduct a written test after the third day. Those who passed the test will be given certificates qualifying them as state umpires,” GSTTA Secretary Kushal Sangtani said, adding, “Interested candidates can check our website for details”.
According to Sangtani, the seminar will also benefit those who want to appear for the International Umpire’s Exam, which is conducted every alternate year.
“We are hopeful that the International Umpire’s Exam will be held in 2022. The state seminar will be beneficial for those who want to appear for the International Umpire’s Exam,” Sangtani added.
