A brain-dead accountant with a private company gives new lease of life to three patients.

Surat (Gujarat) [India], October 25 : After being declared brain dead by doctors in Surat on Monday, an accountant working for a private company gave three people who were suffering from organ failures a new lease on life.

Devchand Rana, a resident of Surti Street in Bhata village near Surat was working as an accountant in a private company. On October 21, Rana sustained serious head injuries when he skidded off from his motorcycle on the Puna-Kumbharia road at about 11:30 am.

The victim was rushed to the Mahavir Trauma hospital at Athwa Gate, where he was detected with a severe brain hemorrahage and clotting of blood in his brain.

On October 24, the doctors at the Mahavir Trauma hospital declared Devchand Rana brain-dead and informed the city-based NGO, Donate Life for counseling his family members for donating the vital organs.

A team of volunteers led by founder and president of Donate Life, Nilesh Mandlewala counseled the family members of Devchand Rana for donating his vital organs, in order to save the lives of the patients who are in immediate need of transplantation.

According to Mandlewala, Devchand’s wife, Praveena Ranan is employed as the worker in the Aanganwadi at Bhata village. She has been reading about the activities of the Donate Life NGO in the newspapers and television channels.

Mandlewala said, “Devchand’s wife readily agreed to donate his vital organs to save the lives of others. Devchand’s kidneys, liver and corneas were donated by the family members”

Mandlewala said that Devchand was survived by his wife and two children.

The State Organ Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) donated the liver to Ahmedabad’s Zydus Cadila hospital and that kidneys were given to the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC). The liver was transplanted in the 54-year-old patient.
