DRI apprehends a gold smuggler with two gold capsules worth Rs 25 lakh concealed in the rectum from Vapi railway station

Vapi (Gujarat) [India]: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths apprehended a gold smuggler from the Vapi railway station with 500 grams of gold worth Rs 25   lakh.

Official sources said the DRI teams from Vapi and Surat conducted a joint operation following a tip-off regarding the suspect smuggling gold from Dubai via Sardar Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The accused was carrying two capsules containing gold paste concealed inside his rectum.

The gold smuggler identified as Mayank Jain is hailing from Dindori District in Madhya Pradesh. He is working as a carrier for the Mumbai-based gold smuggling syndicate. Mayank was paid Rs 20,000 for every trip he used to make between Dubai and Mumbai.

Sources said the capsules were detected after sustained interroration and X-ray of the body. The passenger admitted the offense and was arrested on April 26. Further investigation is going on.
